Statement

KOKAGE KOMOREBI

“alfonatski” produce art that focus on the importance of being aware of the invisible.
By assuming that they are there even if they are invisible, this project aims to help us sense the invisible and learn from them.
These works focus on trees, which have existed and thrived on earth well before humans were born, and attempt to learn and understand them.

Let’s stare at landscapes with trees.
The trees in the landscape that we stare blankly at are out of focus. Trying to recall the trees that were supposed to be in the landscape gives only a blurred image in our memory. We’d imagine what it looked like with unfounded confidence.

Now, let’s stare at the trees themselves.
When we stare at a particular tree, it comes into focus. But when we try to recall the image of the tree we focused on, it becomes blurry and we can’t recall the details. We become aware of how unreliable our memories are.

I believe that understanding the background of trees allowed us to depict the difference in timing between KOMOREBI (Forest God Rays) and KOKAGE (shade of trees).
